RUSSIAN PLANTS MODERNISING 9MM, 12MM CARTRIDGES

MOSCOW, February 10 (AVN) -- Russian cartridge plants have started modernisation of 9mm and 12mm cartridges, Vladimir Sopotov, director general of the Cartridge Plants Association told the Military News Agency.

According to him, the Chechnya campaign has shown that these cartridges have to be modernised in order to increase the pinpoint firing range and penetration level.

In the past six to eight years the penetration level of main cartridge lines has been increased by some sixty percent, Sopotov pointed out. But specialists think this is not the limit yet.

Sopotov also added that the Association together with Russian Agency for Conventional Weapons is planning to draft a federal programme on modernising all the cartridges produced in the country.
