ACTING PRESIDENT PUTIN DISMISSES DEPUTY INTERIOR MINISTER

MOSCOW, February 11 (AVN) -- Acting President Vladimir Putin has signed the resignation of Deputy Interior Minister Vladimir Kolesnikov, which he has filed already in the beginning of the week.

The tension between him and Interior Minister Rushailo has never been secret. The minister has several times expressed his dissatisfaction with the work of the Interior offices in the North Caucasus, which were under Kolesnikov's supervision. The Kremlin and the government were irritated by the deputy interior minister's public statements about the connection between the criminal organisations and the corrupted federal and regional authorities, including those in the law enforcement.

Vladimir Kolesnikov is one of the best police professionals. He was born in 1948, graduated from the legal department of the Rostov-on-Don State University and the Interior Ministry Academy. He worked as a detective, deputy head of investigation department, deputy head of the Interior department, head of the region's criminal police. Since 1991 he became head of the chief investigation department of the Interior Ministry.

In 1995 Kolesnikov was appointed deputy interior minister. He personally attended the investigation of the cases involving the ill-known mass-murderers Fisher and Chekatilo.
