KHANKALA, February 14 (AVN) - Federal troops eliminated about 600 Chechen rebels last week, a spokesman for the unified federal command in the North Caucasus said on Monday.
Up to 100 guerrillas are eliminated daily, the spokesman told the Military News Agency, citing intelligence data.
Successful advance in Chechen foothills and mountains is made possible thanks to "competent and non-standard" actions of the federals, the spokesman stressed. Vertical assaults on dominant hills, airlifting air defence systems and other heavy weapons to the mountain tops and knacky manoeuvres often catch the rebels off guard and result in heavy losses among them, he said.
