KHANKALA, February 14 (AVN) - Federal troops have not used vacuum-explosion ammunition in Chechnya but are likely to start doing it in the near future, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Monday.
This type of ammo is not banned by international conventions and its effectiveness is close to 100 percent in caves, tunnels and mountain crevices which are frequently used as hiding-places by guerrillas, the spokesman told the Military News Agency.
The federals are doing their best to evade civilian losses, he went on. That is why vacuum-explosion ammo will be used only if there is trustworthy reconnaissance data saying there are no civilians in the area, he added.
