NEW HEAD OF PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY POLICE APPOINTED

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, February 14 (AVN) - Interior Minister Vladimir Rushailo has appointed Colonel Vasily Voronin police chief of the Far Eastern town of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the Military News Agency learned.

Voronin, who formerly headed the city's criminal police, replaced Colonel Anatoly Sukhorukov transferred to the reserve due to his old age. However the order only indicates the formal reason for the transfer. Local police sources said Major-General Yuri Astakhov, head of the Kamchatka regional police department, was displeased with Sukhorukov's work.
