SARAJEVO, February 14 (AVN) -- The commander of the North multinational division of the SFOR stabilising forces in Bosnia, General George Campbell, has commended Russian airborne troops as being trustworthy partners in peacekeeping missions.
Russian airborne troopers are true military professionals, and the Americans are always pleased to work with them on peacemaking missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the general stressed.
The separate airborne brigade under command of Colonel Sergey Istrakov has been part of the stabilising force in Bosnia since 1996. The brigade's zone of responsibility is located in the northwestern part of the country and makes 1,750 square km. The length of the front separation line of the opposing sides (Serbs and Moslems) is 75km.
The zone comprises 34 so-called announced points for inspecting arms and equipment of the opposing sides and nine patrol routes. Five of these routes are co-patrolled with US Army detachments of the North division.
