KALININGRAD, February 15 (AVN) - A new export submarine of Project 877 has left for Kronshtadt after completing sea trials in Russia's westernmost port of Baltiysk, the Military News Agency learned on Tuesday.
The submarine was built on China's order by the St. Petersburg-based Admiralteyskiye verfi shipyard, Alexander Andreyev, the man in charge of the order, told the Agency.
In the course of sea trials the researchers tested a new hydro-acoustic system and torpedo launchers. They also gauged the hull's magnetic fields.
The sea trials were carried by Northern Fleet sailors under command of Captain Alexander Gorbunov.
The Chinese crew of the new submarine is currently training at special courses in St. Petersburg's Kuznetsov Naval Academy.
