3,192 MEN IN CHECHNYA SERVE ON CONTRACT BASIS

MOSCOW, February 18 (AVN) -- At present 3,192 servicemen accomplish their mission in Chechnya on a contract basei; over a half of them signed the contracts during the anti-terrorist operation, the Military News Agency learned form the main mobilisation department of the Russian Armed Forces.

Over 30 percent of federal sergeants and soldiers in Chechnya signed contracts with the Defence Ministry, Sergey Yastrzhembsky, presidential aide for media coverage of the Chechnya campaign, told the reporters at the Russian Information Centre.

Last October the number of such servicemen was less than nine percent, he added.
