COMMANDER OF PARATROOPS REGIMENT 119 TO BECOME HERO OF RUSSIA

MOSCOW, January 18 (AVN) -- Acting President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit Moscow's Naro-Fominsk on Sunday, a source in the Defence Ministry told the Military News Agency.

Defence Minister Igor Sergeyev and Airborne Troops Commander Georgy Shpak will accompany him, the source added.

It is planned that Vladimir Putin will confer the title of the Hero of Russia on Colonel Valntin Polyansky, commander of the 119th paratroops regiment of the Airborne, stationed in Naro-Fominsk.

Colonel Polyansky commanded a tactical airborne group in Dagestan and Chechnya for six month, the Agency learned from the service staff.

Orders and medals will also be given to the airborne troopers who participated in the anti-guerrilla operation in the North Caucasus.
