FEDERAL PLANES USE NO HIGH-POWER AMMO IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, February 21 (AVN) - Federal aviation has accomplished over 100 combat missions in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Monday.

No high-power munitions were used against the rebels, the spokesman told the Military News Agency.

The main strikes were inflicted on rebel concentrations in the Argun and Vedeno gorges, as well as on strong points in the Shatoi and Vedeno districts, he said. According to preliminary data, up to 18 fortified areas and strong points, five mortar squads, three machine-guns, an air defence system and two communication centres were eliminated.

Two IL-76 transport planes airlifted two armoured vehicles and 118 servicemen out of the combat area.
