GROZNY, February 21 (AVN) -- Defence Minister Igor Sergeyev, who is currently visiting Grozny on the presidential order, announced the promotion of the federal commanders in charge of the anti-guerrilla operation on Monday, the Military News Agency learned.
Lieutenant-General Gennady Troshev, deputy commander of the unified federal group, has been promoted to the rank of colonel-general, and Major General Vladimir Shamanov, commander of the western federal group, to lieutenant-general.
Also on Monday, Russia's official envoy to Chechnya Nikolay Koshman congratulated the officers and generals of the unified federal group with Fatherland Defender's Day on behalf of the acting President and Chechen authorities, a spokesman for Koshman's administration told the Agency. He was speaking at a meeting in the Chechen capital.
