INTERIOR MINISTRY TO STAGE NEW PHASE OF WHIRLWIND-ANTITERROR OP

GROZNY, February 22 (AVN) -- The Interior Ministry has decided to tighten the schedule of its patrols on the account of terrorist threats in several large Russian cities, visiting Interior Minister Vladimir Rushailo told reporters on Tuesday.

Important installations, transport stations, densely populated areas will be running under special security regime, he said.

According to the minister, the next stage of the Whirlwind-Antiterror operation will be conducted by the law enforcement in the near future.

The previous stage of the operation allowed to improve the criminal situation in the country. A large amount of arms, ammo and some 590t of explosives were extracted by the law enforcement officers, Rushailo said. This allowed for a sharp drop in the number of crimes with using of firearms, he added.
