KHANKALA, March 6 (AVN) - Federal aviation has accomplished about 60 combat missions in Chechnya in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Monday.
The main strikes were inflicted on rebel groups and fortifications in the southern Chechen Argun and Vedeno gorges, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. They resulted in elimination of 15 strong points, 16 mobile mortar and air defence systems and two permanent firing points, he said.
Four vehicles with guerrillas were annihilated en route. Seven strikes were inflicted on mountainous bases of the rebels, their results are currently being verified.
Since Sunday, IL-76 Candid transport planes have airlifted about 100 servicemen and 24 tons of food to the combat area and carried some 200 servicemen and three armoured vehicles to mainland Russia.
