NIZHNY NOVGOROD MAYOR BANS BUILDING OF MILITARY APARTMENT BLOCK

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, March 7 (AVN) - Nizhny Novgorod mayor Yuri Lebedev declined to sign a resolution allowing the Defence Ministry to construct new apartment building in the territory of a former air-defence missile college, a source in the city administration told the Military News Agency.

According to him, this is a temporary decision. It stems from the fact that the garrison apartment exploitation unit owes RUR50m (about USD1,754,386) to the local budget. After the debt is repaid, the mayor's office will note the proposal of the military.

Besides, there are 21 residential buildings on the balance of the unit. In most cases their maintenance leaves much to be desired. There are frequent breaks in water and heat supplies. The Nizhny Novgorod administration also demands that the buildings belonging to the Defence Ministry be repaired.
