BATTALION 91 OF AIRBORNE BRIGADE 31 RETURNING HOME FROM CHECHNYA

ULYANOVSK, March 9 (AVN) -- The 91st battalion of the 31st airborne brigade returns from Chechnya on Thursday, a source in the brigade's headquarters told the Military News Agency.

Last time the battalion connected the headquarters from Saratov in the morning, and it is expected to arrive in Ulyanovsk Thursday night, the source said.

According to the source, about 300 troops of the brigade served in Chechen Vedeno district for almost six months. Before the New Year, the troops captured the strategic Cherepakha height, and a week ago they were the first to enter Shatoi and put the Russian flag and the Airborne Troops banner over the locality.

Most of the troops are regular recruits who will be demobbed after returning to Ulyanovsk, the source stressed.

The 54th and 116th airborne battalions of the brigade are remaining in Chechnya, said acting brigade commander Colonel Sergey Proportsionalny. Currently they are deployed near Shatoi and are taking part in the hostilities. The Ulyanovsk airborne have suffered no losses in Chechnya, the colonel said.
