NATO CHIEF TO VISIT ARMENIA IN AUTUMN 2000

MOSCOW, March 14 (AVN) - NATO Secretary-General George Robertson will visit Armenia in autumn this year, the Armenian Mediamax news agency reported on Tuesday.

The agreement on the visit was achieved at a meeting between an Armenian delegation and high-ranking officials of the Alliance in Brussels, Mediamax quoted Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Ruben Shugaryan as saying.

The meeting discussed a wide spectrum of issues, including NATO-Armenian ties, possible development of relations between Russia and the Alliance and Armenia's stance in this matter, the current state of settlement in Nagorny Karabakh and propsects of Armenian-Turkish relations.

In order to prepare Robertson's visit, Robertson's assistant for political affairs, Claus-Peter Klaiber, will travel to Yerevan in June, Shugaryan said.

While meeting the deputy minister in Brussels, Klaiber urged Armenia to take part in more events held under the auspices of NATO's Partnership for Peace programme and the Individual Partnership Programme (IPP). Armenia said it was ready to take part only in 40 out of 2,000 events that this programme envisages.
