RUSSIA COMPLETES BENCH TESTS OF NEW AIRCRAFT ENGINE

ST.PETERSBURG, March 30 (AVN) - The local Klimov plant has completed bench tests of the new RD-133 aircraft engine, Klimov Constructor-General Alexander Sarkisov said on Thursday.

RD-133 is designed on the basis of the RD-33 engine which is mounted on MIG-29 Fulcrum fighters, Sarkisov told the Military News Agency. Its main peculiarity is an all-angle nozzle with controlled thrust vector.

The nozzle is an offset exhaust pipe with flaps that can be turned at a preset angle, Sarkisov said. Thanks to it, thrust vector can be changed for up to 15 degrees in any direction, a capacity which no foreign engine possesses.

RD-133's thrust has been boosted to 9,000kg/cm in the power augmentation regime. It is likely to be mounted on the latest modifications of the MIG-29 Fulcrum fighter, namely MIG-29SMT and MI-29UBT.
