RUSSIA TO HELP AZERBAIJAN IN RELIEVING NATURAL DISASTER

BAKU, March 31 (AVN) - Visiting Emergency Minister Sergey Shoigu went to study the area of natural disaster in the Bailovskaya Balka district of the Azerbaijani capital, the Military News Agency learned Friday.

On March 6 a slide started here caused by the geological peculiarities of the terrain. As a result of the disaster 23 residential buildings were completely destroyed and 40 more damaged. Installations of a shipyard and two streets also suffered in the catastrophe. Azerbaijani specialists assess the damages at approximately USD40m.

Sergey Shoigu also studied the report on the causes and consequences of the slide prepared by the Russian Emergency Ministry.

The minister informed the country's authorities Russia was ready to provide help to the republic in relieving the aftermath of the disaster.

Shoigu is discussing the details of this help with President Geydar Aliyev. The meeting started at 15.30 Moscow time (1230 GMT).
