RUSSIA'S POLYOT PLANT BEGINS PRODUCTION OF D-10 PARACHUTES

IVANOVO, Central Russia, April 3 (AVN) - The local Polyot garment plant, specialising in parachute systems for the Air Force, Air Defence, sportsmen and Emergency Ministry rescuers, has started batch production of new D-10 parachutes, Valery Vasilyev, the plant's director-general, told the Miliatry News Agency.

The parachutes have passed state tests and are in the inventory of the airborne, Vasilyev said. About 1,000 D-10s are planned for making in 2000, in spite of poor financing.

The production of new parachute systems will scale up gradually in accordance with the state order and the demands of the airborne, Vasilyev stressed.
