MOSCOW, April 3 (AVN) - Federal forces have buried 974 Chechen rebels in Grozny, Sergei Yastrzhembsky, presidential aide for media coverage of the Chechnya campaign, said on Monday.
43 rebels have been buried in Grozny in the past 24 hours, the aide told reporters. In addition to that, 228 militants were buried in the southern Chechen village of Komsomolskoye, where stubborn fighting was in progress for almost a month.
Among the killed rebels are several people of Slavic appearance, including a woman sniper. Another 300 corpses are lying unburied on a minefield next to the village, Yastrzhembsky said.
No hostilities have occurred in Chechnya since Sunday, the aide went on. In the past 24 hours, Chechen police held 14 preventive operations, in the course of which six suspected rebels were detained.
In addition to that, they liberated a resident of adjacent Dagestan held hostage in the village of Dzhigurty in the Kurchaloi district, Yastrzhembsky stressed.
