TURKS EXPOSED AMONG REBEL MERCENARIES IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, April 3 (AVN) - Natives of Turkey are encountered among mercenaries at war in Chechnya, a high-ranking official of the unified federal command said on Monday, citing radio interception data.

Chechen warlords will do their best to prolong the military conflict in order to keep receiving financial aid from abroad, the official told the Military News Agency. They main aim now is to unite separate rebel gangs and prevent mercenaries from leaving the republic, he added.

Meanwhile, militants under command of Jordanian warlord Khattab are boosting their activities in the eastern part of the turbulent republic. According to the official, Khattab is getting ready to breakthrough to adjacent Dagestan. The military believe that the breakthrough attempts will be preceded by distracting operations in other districts.
