FLYING TACTICAL EXERCISE TO BE HELD IN SOUTH RUSSIA MID-APRIL

MOSCOW, April 4 (AVN) - A flying tactical exercise with application of long-range, frontline and radar early warning aviation will be held in southern Russia April 18-22, Lieutenant-General Vladimir Mokhov, head of the exercise told the Military News Agency Tuesday.

The exercise is aimed at checking the combat ability of the airborne equipment after a long brake as well as training the piloting and tactical skills of the staff, the general said.

According to him, the exercise will see flight crews management from ground control points. The targeting of the aviation will be conducted with the help of A-50 Mainstay airborne early warning and control system. Special attention will be given to the interaction of long-range and frontline aviation in the course of penetrating through the enemy's air defence under conditions of intensive electronic warfare.

The strategic bombers, recently received from Ukraine, will be used in the exercises. A test launch of the subsonic low-altitude target imitating a strategic cruise missile will also be performed in the course of the exercise, the general added.
