EVACUATION OF ELDERLY, DISABLED BEGINS IN GROZNY

GROZNY, April 13 (AVN) - The Ministries of Emergency Situations, Health, Labour and Social Development and the Federal Migration Service have pooled their efforts to evacuate single elderly people and the disabled from Grozny, an Emergency Ministry spokesman said on Thursday.

The first 50-strong group has already been prepared for evacuation. The people said they were willing to leave the ruined city forever, the spokesman told the Military News Agency.

After a medical examination in the field hospital of the Zashchita All-Russian centre set up in Grozny's Staropromyslovsky district, the evacuated will be sent to hospitals and sanatoriums in various southern Russian and North Caucasian regions.

Having undergone the necessary treatment, the elderly and disabled will be transferred to old people's homes throughout Russia, the spokesman said. The list of such homes is being compiled by the Ministry of Labour and Social Development.
