MOSCOW, April 13 (AVN) - Artillery of the Airborne operative group is shelling exposed enemy targets in the southeastern Chechen Vedeno and Nozhai-Yurt districts 24 hours a day, Major-General Alexander Grekhnev, chief of the Airborne artillery and missile troops, said on Thursday.

While combat units and formations are regrouping, 120mm 2S9 Nona-S self-propelled cannons, 122mm D-30 howitzers, divisions of Msta self-propelled cannons and multiple launch rocket systems are standing in permanent fire readiness, Grekhnev told the Military News Agency.

In the past 24 hours, the artillery fired over 1,000 shells, which is 50 percent higher than the average day of fire, he stressed.

General Grekhnev has just returned from Chechnya where he was acting artillery chief of the Airborne group for a long time. For courage and heroism displayed in the fights, the general was awarded the Order of Military Merit and an inscribed PM pistol.
