MOSCOW, April 20 (AVN) - The federal police have exposed a total of 1,600 crimes in Chechnya this year, the Interior Ministry temporary press service said on Thursday.
On Wednesday, a powerful bomb consisting of two kilograms of plastic explosive and a fuse was found by police in a residential block in Grozny's Leninsky district. Sappers were called to eliminate the device, a centre official told the Military News Agency.
At the same time, an underground cache was found in the Zavodskoi district of the Chechen capital. It contained several mines, a huge number of grenades and cartridges, a flame thrower, a grenade launcher, a large-calibre machine-gun and a minor power plant.
In the past 24 hours, the federal police have seized 25 firearms, three kilograms of explosive and over 11,000 units of ammunition, the official said.
Also on Wednesday, the federals exposed a 20-year old resident of the Tsatsan-Yurt village who had in his house 500m of electric cable identical to that seized at the site of the recent explosion on a road between the localities of Belorechye and Kurchaloi.
While searching the house, officers found two infants aged 1.5 and two years in the basement. The man failed to provide identification documents for the children or explain their origin. The police believe they have been kidnapped.
Investigation is underway.
