MOSCOW, April 24 (AVN) - The next cargo spaceship will start for the Mir station overnight to Wednesday, a spokesman for the Flight Control Centre told the Military News Agency.
Progress M1-2 will be put into orbit by the Soyuz-U (11A511U) booster rocket that will be launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome, the spokesman said. It will carry fuel, food, and oxygen, as well as equipment and devices necessary to demothball the station, restore regular functioning of its solar battery orientation system and carry out other repair and preventive works.
The cargo spaceship is equipped with eight additional fuel tanks which enables to increase its payload considerably in comparison with regular Progress. This design was first used in the Progress M1-1 spaceship, which is currently docked to Mir.
