GEORGIAN-ABKHAZIAN SECURITY CONSULTATIONS BEGIN IN GALI

GALI, Abkhazia, May 3 (AVN) - The Georgian-Abkhazian consultations on security issues have begun in the area of the 201st observation point of the CIS Collective Peacekeeping Forces (CPF) on one of the passes over the Inguri river Wednesday, a source in the CPF Staff told the Military News Agency.

Special representative of the UN Secretary General to Georgia Dieter Boden expressed his concern over the escalation of the situation in the Gali region. According to him, April alone saw 11 killings of Abkhazian policenmen here. As a response to that additional police and army troops were of the self-proclaimed Abkhazia were sent in, which is a direct breach of the agreement on separation of the sides.

Tbilisi is represented by State Minister Vazha Lordkipanidze, Sukhumi by Abkhazian Prime-Minister Vyacheslav Tsugba. The consultations are also attended by representatives of law-enforcement ministries of the parties and the command of the CIS CPF.
