KAMCHATKA GOVERNOR TO HELP RESTORE BURNT KURIL OUTPOST

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, May 4 (AVN) - Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Biryukov allocated RUR150,000 (about USD5,300) from his reserve fund for the North-eastern border guard department, the Military News Agency learned.

The funds can allow to restore the barracks of the Matua outpost situated in one of the Kuril islands. The barracks burnt down on January 24 as a result of short circuit in the wiring. One fire-fighter died in the flame, several others were seriously injured.

According to the decision of Lieutenant-General Vladislav Prokhoda, head of the department, the personnel of the outpost was sent back from the island, and the outpost mothballed. Its restoration began only in March, but the fire-fighters were unable to remove the aftermath of the fire on their own.
