KHANKALA, May 5 (AVN) - Over the past 24 hours SU-25 Frogfoot attack planes have flown two and MI-24 Hind fire support helicopters 10 missions in Chechnya, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.
According to the spokesman, lately, the strikes upon rebel bases and gatherings have been inflicted only on request of the federal command. There is no need for massive use of aviation in Chechnya now, he said. But the military pilots are always ready to increase the number of sorties whenever that be needed.
MI-8 Hip and MI-26 Halo helicopters have delivered about 10t of different cargo and over 100 servicemen to the border mountainous districts of Chechnya. An IL-76 Candid transport evacuated 154 servicemen from the combat area to central Russia. The federal aviation has not suffered any losses in personnel or materiel, the spokesman added.
