NEW APPOINTMENTS IN UKRAINIAN DEFENCE MINISTRY

KIEV, May 5 (AVN) - Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma decided to further employ former military heads Colonel-General Viktor Bannykh and Lieutenant-General Alexander Chapovsky, a source in the Ukrainian Defence Ministry told the Military News Agency.

Bannykh is appointed deputy defence minister for military policy and Chapovsky deputy defence minister for Armed Forces reforming.

The post of deputy minister for Armed Forces reforming was introduced exclusively for employing Chapovsky, the source said. Experts say that the general cherishes special favour of the president and his immediate administration.

Bannykh occupied the post of the border guards commander until autumn 1999. Chapovsky was the commander of recently disbanded National Guard.
