FEDERAL AIRSTRIKES SOW PANIC AMONG CHECHEN REBELS

KHANKALA, May 6 (AVN) - Federal aircraft have flown six sorties in Chechnya in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Saturday.

The AN-30 Clank reconnaissance plane has accomplished two missions, while MI-24 Hind helicopters took off 50 times to convoy federal motorcades, the spokesman told the Military News Agency.

The strikes were inflicted on the rebel gatherings in mountainous Chechnya. Their losses are being checked, but according to radio interception data, the strikes were very effective and sowed panic among the militants.

Two IL-76 Candid transports airlifted 31t of humanitarian cargo to the North Caucasus and took 318 servicemen out of the area of operation.
