RUSSIAN CHIEF-OF-STAFF TO SIT IN NATO-RUSSIA COUNCIL MAY 10

MOSCOW, May 6 (AVN) - Chief-of-Staff Anatoly Kvashnin will attend the meeting of NATO-Russia Permanent Joint Council Permanent Committee on May 10 in Brussels, a source in the General Staff said Saturday.

The general will set for Brussels 8.00 Moscow time (0400 GMT) the same day, the source told the Military News Agency.

Kvashnin will be accompanied by Colonel-General Leonid Ivashov, head of the Defence Ministry international co-operation department. On the whole the Russian military delegation will total 10 members.

The agenda of the committee sitting will include three main issues: the operative situation on the Balkans and in Kosovo, Russia's new military doctrine and the NATO strategic concept, and the perspectives of co-operation between the Alliance and Russia, the source said.

The meeting will also decide on the final date of the Council sitting at the defence ministers' level, that is due in June. A joint statement by the sides will be issued after the meeting.

According to the Agency's source, Kvashnin will meet new NATO Allied Commander Europe, US Air Force General Joseph Ralston.
