MOSCOW, May 6 (AVN) - The Sukhoi aircraft enterprise will present a set of proposals for modernisation of SU-22 Fitter fighter-bombers at the ILA 2000 air show that will be held in Berlin from June 6 to 12, Yuri Chervakov, head of the Sukhoi press and information department, said on Friday.
Russia has exported over 400 SU-22 planes, and most of them are still used by the aviation of various countries, Chervakov told the Military News Agency. Sukhoi is proposing to fit them with the GPS satellite navigation system, VOR/IKS radio navigation and landing system, VIM-95 navigation device, an ultra-short wave radio, and a new railing system, he said.
The plane will be equipped with the FLIR system for night-time use of H-29L, H-25ML, and S-25L laser-guided missiles, as well as KAB-500Kr and KAB-500L guided air bombs. It can also be armed with air-to-air guided missiles of the Magic-2 class.
The modernisation will help prolong the service life of Fitters until 2010 or 2015, Chervakov stressed.
SU-22 is an export variant of the more famous SU-17 plane.
