RUSSIA STARTS DEVELOPMENT OF NEW PS-9 AVIATION ENGINE

PERM, Urals, May 10 (AVN) - The local engine builders have started the development of a new 9-10t-thrust PS-9 aviation engine, Yuri Reshetnikov director general of the Perm motor factory and Aviadvigatel JS told the Military News Agency.

According to him, the new engines will be mounted on the new perspective IL-214 passenger transport, as well as some of the modifications of TU-334 liner and the BE-200 multipurpose amphibian.

The total costs of development of PS-9, that includes R&D and designer and tests works, projecting, assembling of six test models, certification and preparation for batch production make USD180m. Reshetnikov stressed. The development of similar Pratt & Whitney engine would cost about USD800m.

According to industry specialists, the next 20 years market for PS-9 engines makes about 10,000 pieces. The mass output of PS-9 is expected starting from 2004.
