KHATTAB-TRAINED MILITANTS LIKELY TO BE INVOLVED IN BOMBING ATTEMPTS IN DAGESTAN

MAKHACHKALA, May 10 (AVN) - The Dagestani law enforcement does not rule out that the explosive devices detected here on May 9 were set by the Wahhabi-extremists, a high-ranking official of the republic's Interior Ministry told the Military News Agency.

According to the source, the ways of setting and the type of the payload are similar to those taught in the sabotage school of Jordanian mercenary warlord Khattab.

Two-remote control mines in the central square of the city and an anti-tank mine near the detention ward were detected and rendered harmless on Tuesday. Since the beginning of 2000, already nine attempts of bombings have been prevented in Dagestan.

A radio-controlled mine was blown in the town of Kaspiysk in the beginning of May. On April 3, a bus was blown away by a mine explosion in the Novolaksk district. Two people were killed and two wounded in the incident.
