KHANKALA, May 11 (AVN) - Federal units in Chechnya have come under rebel fire 14 times in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Thursday.
The federals had to return fire to scatter the attackers, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. Rebel losses are being checked, he said.
Meanwhile, the police detained four suspected rebels, exposed two arms and ammo caches and seized 22 firearms from local residents, the spokesman noted.
Militants do not abandon the attempts to boost activities in the southern Chechen Argun and Vedeno gorges. Three rebel gatherings were eliminated there by federal air strikes.
According to the spokesman, several rebel scouting parties have been spotted near the Chechnya-Georgia border trying to locate routes of escape to the neighbouring republic. Manoeuvre groups of the federal border guard troops have enforced control over the possible violation zones, he added.
