PRISTINA, May 11 (AVN) - The OSCE mission in Kosovo is forming a war crimes tribunal under the auspices of the United Nations, a spokesman for the Russian military contingent headquarters told the Military News Agency.
The tribunal is to start functioning already in June, an OSCE official said in a report to Russian peacekeepers' commander Lieutenant-General Valery Yevtukhovich.
The new judicial body will consider extremely grave crimes committed in the territory, the spokesman said. It is expected to take a part of the work currently done by criminal courts.
According to the United Nations, the crime rate has risen considerably in Kosovo. The territory has registered 101 ethnic murders, 47 kidnappings and 890 assaults this year.
Russia's Private Alexander Syomin was among the victims of uprising violence. His dead body was found 5km north of the Glogovac village on April 26.
