MINSK, May 12 (AVN) - Belarus will not support economic sanctions against the self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia, should the suggestion be made at the coming CIS summit, said President Alexander Lukashenko on Friday.
The statement was made after the meeting with Yuri Yarov, chairman of the Commonwealth executive committee, that discussed the agenda of the summit scheduled for June 21, a source in the presidential administration told the Military News Agency.
According to the source, in the course of the meeting Lukashenko opposed the intention of replacing the Russian peacekeeping contingent in the zone of Georgian-Abkhazian conflict with international force.
The Yugoslavian experience is more than graphic of what this can result in, the President stressed. That is why Belarus will definitely block such a decision, he added.
