YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, Northern Russia, May 12 (AVN) - The Sakhalin region administration will conduct a research and practice conference entitled "The Memory and Lessons of the Neftegorsk Earthquake" here on May 24, a source in the administration told the Military News Agency on Friday.
The conference marks five years since the devastating earthquake that happened in the north of the island taking the lives of over 2,000 people, the source said.
According to him, the conference will be attended by the country's leading seismologists and population and territory protection specialists. The Emergency ministry will be represented by its deputy head Mikhail Faleyev.
