FED TRANSPORTS FLY OVER 1,000 MISSIONS TO CHECHNYA SINCE AUGUST 1999

KHANKALA, May 18 (AVN) - In the past 24 hours federal SU-25 Frogfoot attack planes have flown 16 sorties in Chechnya, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Thursday.

SU-24 Fencer frontline bombers have accomplished eight sorties, AN-30 Clank reconnaissance plane carried out one mission and MI-24 hind fire support helicopters took off over 40 times, the spokesman told the Military News Agency.

The main strikes were inflicted upon mountain rebel bases. The results of the strikes are being specified.

An IL-76 Candid military transport airlifted 143 servicemen to Mozdok and evacuated 151 servicemen from the combat area to Central Russia.

Since the beginning of the anti-guerrilla operation in the North Caucasus the military transport aviation has flown over 1,000 missions to Chechnya. 35,000 servicemen and over 500 pieces of different ordnance and materiel were conveyed, the spokesman said.
