PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, May 19 (AVN) - A commission headed by Vice-Admiral Yury Mikhailov, chief of the Navy Rear arrived in the detachments of the Troops and Forces of the Far East on Friday, a source in the Kamchatka group headquarters told the Military News Agency.
The commission was sent to the peninsula following the request of the former Troops and Forces commander, now the State Duma lower house of parliament deputy Valery Dorogin, filed at the meeting with the Navy Commander Vladimir Kuroyedov.
The military as well as Kamchatka civilians are caught in the middle of energy crisis. The situation is aggravated by continuing attempts of the Kamchatka authorities to manipulate the figures of the military debts for the electricity consumed.
According to the data of the Kamchatskenergo energy corporation, the law-enforcement structures that consume not more than a quarter of the electricity of the region have paid for it covering debts up to 1998 inclusively and owe the corporation not more than RUR420m (USD14.6m). The region administration claims that the debt is about RUR600m (USD20.87m).
The commission has to analyse and agree with the providers the real figures for the arrears of the Kamhatka group and to find the ways for pulling the Kamchtaka troop group out of energy crisis.
