GROZNY, May 22 (AVN) - A federal MI-26 Halo helicopter carrying 50 police officers from the Perm region in eastern European Russia came under fire in Chechnya overnight to Monday, the Military News Agency learned in the administration of Russian government's envoy Nikolai Koshman.
The policemen were heading for the district centre Vedeno to replace officers serving in the local temporary police department, an administration official said. Their helicopter came under fire in the vicinity of the Serzhen-Yurt village in southeastern Chechnya.
Rebel bullets damaged the aircraft's oil radiator, the official said. Nevertheless, it managed to complete the flight and land in Vedeno. No crew members or police officers were wounded.
