ST.PETERSBUR, May 23 (AVN) - Wednesday will see the centennial of the legendary Aurora cruiser the 1st ship of the Russian Navy, Captain Anatoly Bazhanov, commander of the cruiser told the Military News Agency.
Although Aurora, which is the last ship of the Russian imperial fleet still adopted by the Navy, is known most because of its historical salvo of October 1917, its biography contains a lot more no less interesting pages, the captain said.
Among them - the participation in the Tsushima battle, the defence of the blockaded Leningrad in WWII.
Being an affiliate of the Central Naval Museum, Aurora still remains a combat ship of the Russian Navy, Bazhanov said.
The crew of the cruiser strictly follows the ship charter, although it does not have an ammo reserve and torpedo launchers, and the armament maintenance is conducted by one artillery unit, the commander added.
