RUSSIA, GEORGIA TO EXCHANGE BORDER GUARD MISSIONS

TBILISI, May 29 (AVN) - Russian Federal Border Guard Service Director Konstantin Totsky will visit Georgia on June 6-7 to discuss the possibility of opening the missions of the two countries' border departments in Moscow and Tbilisi respectively, a source in the Georgian border guard service said on Monday.

Totsky and his Georgian counterpart Valery Chkheidze will also raise the problem of the Pichvni village located on the Chechen strap of the Russia-Georgia border, the source told the Military News Agency. Some time ago Russian border guards entered the village and claimed it was located in the Russian territory. The Georgian party is of another opinion, of which it has informed both the Federal Border Guard Service and the Foreign Ministry.

According to Zaza Kandelaki, head of the state commission for border delimitation, the situation around this border village is escalating with every passing day, and this forces Tbilisi to push forward a dialogue with Moscow. The negotiations on this particular problem were to start in Russia already two weeks ago but had to be postponed. Now Chkheidze will have to secure Totsky's support for speeding up the process.
