MOSCOW, May 29 (AVN) - The current situation in Chechnya is complicated, but quite controllable, Sergey Yastrzhembsky, aide to the RF President for media coverage of the Chechnya campaign, told a briefing in the Russian Information Centre on Monday.
According to him, the past 24 hours saw the detention of six rebels including a Ramzas Dzhambayev, personal bodyguard of notorious secessionist warlord Shamil Basayev.
Federal troops exposed 16 arms caches, the aide went on. The Interior Ministry troops went on 16 special operations extracting arms, ammo and drugs.
A governmental commission is returning from Chechnya on Monday, Yastrzhembsky said. The commission was supposed to elaborate proposals on restoring Grozny and other localities destroyed in the course of hostilities in the breakaway republic.
