MOSCOW HOSTS PRESENTATION OF SWEDEN'S SIPRI YEARBOOK

MOSCOW, May 29 (AVN) - The local World Economics and Foreign Relations Institute under the Russian Academy of Sciences on Monday hosted the presentation of the 30th Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) yearbook, the Military News Agency learned.

The Russian edition of the current yearbook was published thanks to close co-operation with the World Economics and Foreign Relations Institute, SIPRI Director Adam Daniel Rotfeld said. All the researches covered in the yearbook are based on real facts and documents, he said.

The issue analyses new approaches to key problems of the present-day world, including military intervention and security on the basis of partnership. It covers large-scale military conflicts in Kashmir, Kosovo, Tajikistan, and the measures taken by the United Nations and other international bodies to settle the conflicts in the Middle East and other areas.

The yearbook also carries traditional SIPRI researches concerning the expenses on military-related issues, development and production of new weapons. The main attention is paid to the analysis of China's military expenses, as well as nuclear tests effected by India and Pakistan.

A lot of attention is paid to the nuclear interaction between the United States and Russia. The article is accompanied by data on nuclear blasts starting from 1945. An entire chapter is devoted to Russia's military reform.

Russian readers are expected to be interested in the detailed appendix compiled by the World Economics and Foreign relations Institute. It analyses the main tendencies in the development of Russia's relations with the West in the sphere of security and arms controls.
