SC SEC RECEIVES UK DEP FOREIGN MINISTER

MOSCOW, May 31 (AVN) - Security Council Secretary Sergey Ivanov received UK Deputy Secretary for Foreign Affairs John Kerr in the Kremlin on Wednesday, a source in the SC administration told the Military News Agency.

According to the source the two men discussed the development of the countries' relations, including the co-operation in the field of security. The meeting paid special attention to the situation in the Balkans, North Caucasus, and Trans-Caucasian region, the problems of nuclear weapons and missile means of their delivery non-proliferation, as well as the questions of curbing international terrorism.

The Russian-British relations are very stable and predictable, Ivanov said after the meeting. The recent meeting between President Vladimir Putin and British Prime Minister Tony Blair has added to the effectiveness and dynamics in the bilateral co-operation, he stressed.

The further expansion of Russia-Britain relations, especially in the spheres of strengthening strategic stability, mutual and international security corresponds to the interests of the two nations, the secretary said. The meeting was attended by the UK ambassador to Russia Roderic Lyne.
