ULYANOVSK, May 31 (AVN) - The local automobile plant started tests of UAZ-3159 Bars army vehicles equipped with new GAZ-5601 diesel engine, Yuri Kudryavtsev, Nizhny Novgorod automobile plant (GAZ) JS constructor general told the Military News Agency.
The engine was built by GAZ on a license of Austrian Steyr Daimler-Puch AG. It corresponds to the world highest standards. Its mounting on Bars type vehicles was a new step towards modernisation of Ulyanovsk all-terrain vehicles.
A 5-seat command vehicle is designed on the basis of UAZ-3159. Another Bars modification is intended for attack and reconnaissance groups of seven - eight men. An armoured variant of bars is also developed.
