PUTIN VISITS RUSSIA'S LEADING ENGINE BUILDING PLANT

RYBINSK, Yaroslavl Region, May 31 (AVN) - Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Russia's leading engine building enterprise - Rybinsk Motors JS in the course of his visit to the Yaroslavl region, the Military News Agency learned.

The enterprise was founded in 1916. In Soviet times it built engines for ANT-4 and ANT-6 heavy bombers, SU-7B Fitter, SU-9 Fishpot and SU-17 Fitter fighters. At present the plant is building engines for IL-76, IL-62M and TU-154 planes that are most popular in Russia. AL-41F promising engine will be produced here beginning in the near future. The engine is designed at Lyulka-Saturn JS.

60 percent of the plant's capacities are used in building aircraft engines, other 40 are used in conversion projects, such as building gas turbine units, Buran, Taiga, Ikar snowmobiles, etc.

Vladimir Putin was shown the Rybinsk Motors exhibition, visited the plant's shops. The meeting with the workers and administration of the plant discussed the perspectives of plant's development and also the development of other region's defence industry enterprises.

The president also participated in tests of new Chilim speed air-cushioned boat, built at the Yaroslavl shipyard. The boat is intended for landing and rescue operations.

Speaking before the heads of the local enterprises, Putin named the Yaroslavl region as model region, included in the top ten Russian regions. He invoked Russian and foreign businessmen to invest money in new projects and developments that are in abundance in the region's enterprises.

Putin will go back to Moscow on Wednesday night, a source in the presidential administration told the Agency.
