PRISTINA, June 1 (AVN) - Visiting NATO Secretary-General George Robertson met Lieutenant-General Valery Yevnevich, commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Kosovo, in the KFOR headquarters on Thursday, a spokesman for the Russian peacekeepers staff at the Slatina airfield told the Military News Agency.
Robertson heard Yevnevich's report on the peculiarities of the peacekeeping missions in the zone controlled by Russian soldiers. He praised their activities, saying the presence of the Russian military contingent within the peacekeeping forces in Kosovo is an important condition for stabilisation in the territory.
The meeting of the two officials was also attended by KFOR Commander Juan Ortuno of Spain.
The NATO chief did not come to Kosovo by chance. According to some reports, US President Bill Clinton will visit the Balkans during his tour through Western Europe.
